Two goals from veterans Harry Nyirenda, and Essau Kanyenda were enough to help Mighty Beforward Wanderers open a three-point lead at the summit of the TNM Super league after seeing off struggling Blantyre United by two goals to nil.

The gap has been confirmed after Nomads’ closest chaser, Silver Strikers managed a 1- all draw against Master’s Security.

In the Nomads match, defender Harry Nyirenda opened the scoring in the second half before another old timer, Essau Kanyenda added the second later on.

Despite scintillating football from both sides, the first half ended in a stale mate.

Come the second half, combinations of strikers Esau Kanyenda and Khumbo Ng’ambi changed the tempo of the game. It was no wonder then that the Nomads found the back of the net later on in the half.

The score now takes the league leaders’ tally to 41 points from 17 games.

Elsewhere Silver Strikers drew with Masters Security 1-1 at the former’s own backyard. The goal came from Mathews Sibale (Silver Striker), and Francis Nkonda from Masters Security.

The draw leaves Silver Strikers with 38 points; having played a match more than the Nomads.

Team of the weekend has to be Mzuni FC which has managed to collect four points away from their two Lilongwe assignments.

On Saturday it shared the spoils with resurgent Civo Sporting Club 1-1 at Civo Stadium.

On Sunday, the story was different as the Green Intellectuals massacred the defending champions, Kamuzu Barracks FC by 2 goals to zero thanks to Hundson Milanzi, and Chisomo Gilion.

The win leaves Mzuni Fc mid table on nineth position with 23 points, a point above the defending champions.

In Mzuzu, the Lions of Kaningina, Moyale Barracks FC defeated relegation-bound  Chitipa United 3-2.

It was all smiles for Chitipa United’s fellow strugglers, Dwangwa United who beat Wizard fc 1-0.

The league is now getting heated up as no team is not wanting to be a walk-over.
