Afro-pop songstress Temwah, formerly known as Spotless C, has released her first hit single, “Malawi (Zakwathu),” just months after signing with Lush Africa Entertainment.

Produced by Tricky Beats, “Malawi (Zakwathu)” debuted on Monday, 26th June 2017, and is now airing on radio stations across Malawi. The song is also available for download at www.malawi-music.com.

The track celebrates Malawi’s rich culture, highlighting traditional dances, cuisine, languages, and attire. In the first verse, Temwah sings:

“Timadya mkhwani wa matimati, kuphika thobwa la khatikhati/Ku Malawi, Manganje, yamba kuvina usathawe/Ku Nsanje, mwa chaje, chi Sena chiyankhulo chake/Tikafuna Utaka, sitichita kusaka, Lake Malawi is blessed with some beautiful fish.”

Beyond culture, “Malawi (Zakwathu)” also touches on themes of hard work and patriotism. In the second verse, she sings:

“Udya bwanji osalima? Ulemela bwanji osavepa? Nsanje, mtima osadekha kukhala ndi anthu nzosatheka.”

According to Lorraine Mopiwa Kljajić of Lush Africa, the rebranded Temwah is now focused on Afro-pop to expand her reach and collaborate with international artists.

“Temwah approached us in November last year for management, and we officially signed her in January. Since then, she has been working tirelessly in the studio, experimenting with different sounds to create a unique musical identity. ‘Malawi’ is her first release under Lush Africa,” Lorraine revealed.

Born Temwa Gondwe, the rising star began singing in church as a child and recorded her first song in 2009. She cites Lauryn Hill as one of her biggest musical inspirations.
