NYAMILANDU TO CONSIDER LIKOMA

By Dadcorf Junior

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president, Walter Nyamilandu-Manda expressed optimism for Likoma Island to take part in national tournaments organized by the national football body.

Likoma Island has been sidelined from any national tournaments by the country’s football governing body for ages now.

In an interview with EM, Walter Nyamilandu said the association will find means for Likoma to partake in this year’s newly introduced U15 and U17 tournaments.

“I believe that people in Likoma do play football. The only problem is transportation but we will find ways that will help to introduce the tournaments in Likoma,” said Nyamilandu.

Nyamilandu further suggested that Likoma will have its own format in the soon to be introduced U15 and U17 leagues.

“We need to find a way to revamp soccer at the district, maybe we will find a format that they can play there. Later, they can join the rest of the teams. But this is just a suggestion. I’m very sure that we will have a solution to end this,” suggested he.

Likoma Island has been a victim of being sidelined in different sectors that other districts enjoy due to transportation hiccups.
