Hope. Gloom. Higgledy-piggledy. That is the cycle of events that is surrounding 2016 Simama premier league’s top goal poacher, Chitipa United’s Abel Mwakilama.

Over the week, rumours hit the social media and other notable radio stations claiming that the goal ace was training with the fallen footballing giant, Nyasa Big Bullets.

But in an exclusive interview with EM Sports desk, both Abel Mwakilama, and Chitipa United’s General secretary, Marshal Mwenechanya brushed aside Bullets’ claims.

According to Mwenechanya, Bullets is just trying to play mind games but the truth is that Mwakilama is contracted with Chitipa United. The GS further claimed no team has ever formally approached neither the team (Chitipa United), nor the player regarding the said issue.

“The People’s team, (Nyasa Big Bullets) never contacted either of the concerned party (sic), these are just speculations. The star even participated in today’s (Wednesday) training session and yet somebody is claiming the lad is in their camp?…simply put, Mwakilama is under Chitipa United’s contract,” Mwenechanya clarified.

On his part, the 42 goal scoring machine in the 2016 Simama Premier league also quashed aside rumours that neither Nyasa Big Bullets approached him, nor was he training with the People’s team.

“Currently, I’m still with Chitipa United. I can also confirm that no Bullets official has ever contacted me. Whatever you are hearing on various radio stations is just one of those pre-super league gimmicks!” he said.

Although this is the scenario, our investigations reveal that some super league team, but not Nyasa Big Bullets, (name deliberately withheld) is just inches away from winning Mwakilama’s signature.

Over the week, Nyasa Big Bullets Chairperson Noel Lipipa told one of the local radio stations that it was almost a deal-done between his team and the red hot striker, among others, as his team has embarked on a beefing up exercising so as to reclaim the super league championship.

Currently, super league teams are beefing up their squads in readiness for a yet-to-be named date when this year’s tourney is to commence. Initially, it was supposed to kick off on the 8th of April 2017 but the probable sponsors, Telekom Networks Malawi Limited pulled out of the contractual negotiations after it was irked by some sentiments from the board for Commission for Fair Trade and Competitions. The board had insinuated that the mobile service provider was unethical in the manner it handled the super league sponsorship.
