Sultry, honest, heartfelt, and soulful—these are just a few words that describe the captivating sound of British-Malawian singer-songwriter Elle Mak. Often compared to music icons such as Aaliyah, Summer Walker, and H.E.R., Elle Mak is an artist whose unique blend of R&B, smooth jazz, and Southern African influences sets her apart in the contemporary music scene.

Born in Johannesburg and now based in London, Elle’s passion for music was evident from an early age. Growing up in a household where the creative arts were nurtured alongside academic success, she began performing at just five years old. Her musical journey took shape when she co-founded the girl group Khandi Floss, inspired by legendary groups like TLC and the Spice Girls. The group gained recognition, performing at esteemed venues such as Hackney Empire before disbanding to pursue individual academic endeavors.

Despite studying Law at university, Elle’s love for music never waned. She continued writing songs, turning personal experiences into heartfelt lyrics that would later form the foundation of her solo career. In 2019, she collaborated with Malawian Amapiano producer Cap10 on the Afro-house track “Flava,” further expanding her musical reach and performing at various venues across London.

Now, Elle Mak is making her highly anticipated solo debut with the single “Call Me Up,” the first release from her upcoming EP, expected in the summer of 2021. This project promises a rich blend of R&B, soul, and AfroHouse, with each song narrating a different chapter in the artist’s journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and healing. “Call Me Up” is just the beginning of what is sure to be an exciting musical evolution for Elle Mak.
