ARTIST OF THE WEEK: SevenOmore

By Kedson Ngwira

PERSONAL INFO

  • Full Name: Lovemore Allan Majuta
  • Origin of the Name “SevenOmore”: Back in Form 1 at Kamuzu Barracks, my friend Innocent Mwanjabe used to call me “Lomore.” I didn’t like it, so I decided to change it. I wanted a number in my name, so I replaced “L” with “7,” forming “7-O-MORE.”
  • Date of Birth: 26th November 1994
  • Highest Academic Qualification: MSCE attained in 2012. I plan to return to school for higher education soon after taking a break due to personal reasons.
  • Favourite Food: Nsima
  • Record Label: Urban Link Muzical Village
  • Favourite Colour: Black
  • Relationship Status: Taken
  • Other Occupations: I am an upcoming entrepreneur and also work with ULAVi Limited Company, which promotes and protects the art of individuals in general.

MUSIC JOURNEY

  • What Drove You Into Music? I was born an artist. Initially, I did carbon drawings but later focused on music. I started composing my own songs in Standard 5, and I still have those songs.

WHO’S WHO ON YOUR 265 URBAN MUSIC LIST

  • Studio Production or Rapping First? Studio production came first
  • Favourite Local Urban Artist: Darley Christian
  • Favourite International Urban Artist: Kanye West
  • Favourite Local TV Presenter: Anyone who knows how to engage viewers
  • Favourite Local TV Channel: None in particular
  • Favourite Local Videographer: Lex Gong’ah
  • Favourite Local Music Video: No specific one, I watch any

YOUR TAKE ON 265 URBAN MUSIC PODIUM

  • L City or BTz Leading Musically? Both. However, most BTz artists sound the same, but they dominate more than Mgabu, whereas LLz artists are unique but often struggle with audio production quality.
  • Who’s Ruling the 265 Urban Music Industry? I don’t know, but whoever it is, I bet I’m one of them and better.
  • Most Embarrassing Moment as an Artist:
    1. My first interview at Timveni Radio with Tilda was rescheduled to a live TV interview because I was late, which I didn’t enjoy.
    2. The Nation Newspaper included me in their “Artist of the Week” article and revealed my MSCE scores, making it seem like I pursued music because I couldn’t get into UNIMA despite good grades.
  • Most Memorable Moment: When Jay Stranger gifted me a studio sound card at a time when my studio had shut down due to a dead sound card.
  • Music Then vs. Now: Music today is just as dope as back in the day. I bet in 2078, I’ll also say today’s music was better.
  • Promoting the Urban Music Industry in Malawi: Artists should treat music as a business. Managers should develop strong business plans. Every artist should have business management knowledge or entrepreneurship skills. Additionally, there should be an organization of urban producers to rate productions (audio and video) to eliminate subpar content and ensure industry growth.

    • I do every genre, not just trap.

MESSAGE TO 265 DIE-HARDS (FANS) To my fans: You are my bosses. Without you, I wouldn’t be making music. Keep supporting my music, and I will keep entertaining you. Even if I die, my music will live on in your minds and be passed down to your grandchildren.

To all die-hards: Hard work is the only way to make it. Be unique and creative. Avoid hating or judging others’ work because critics make those they criticize better while they themselves stagnate. Appreciating others’ work will help you grow—skills are acquired, not inborn.
